Train for the Trails: April Edition

Holly State Recreation Area | Holly, MI

We’re back with another Train for the Trails experience, and this one is all about building real momentum.

This April, we’re taking on a scenic 8.6-mile hike with approximately 610 feet of elevation through Holly State Recreation Area. This trail brings rolling terrain, wooded trails, and steady elevation changes that will challenge your endurance while rewarding you with a beautiful, immersive outdoor experience amongst multiple scenic lakes.

This is intentional training.

Whether you’re preparing for our upcoming Puerto Rico trip or simply looking to push yourself into longer, more rewarding hikes, this experience is designed to help you build stamina, improve your pacing, and become more confident on varied terrain.

What to Expect

  • A steady, group-paced hike focused on endurance and consistency

  • 8.6 miles of scenic trails with moderate elevation gain

  • A mix of terrain that will require focus, awareness, and controlled movement

  • A mid-hike lunch break on trail (location may vary.. this one is all about adapting)

  • A supportive environment that encourages you to challenge yourself while staying in control

This is not a race. We hike together, we pace together, and we complete the experience as a group.

Know Before You Register

This hike requires:

  • Prior hiking experience (not your first hike)

  • The ability to comfortably complete long-distance hikes (6+ miles)

  • Awareness of your physical health, endurance level, and limitations

  • A commitment to the full duration of the hike (timing may vary based on group pace and trail conditions)

NOTE: If you’re new to hiking or prefer shorter, more relaxed experiences, don’t worry, we always offer easier Hike & Dine events that are perfect for building up to something like this.

  • Hikers ready to level up their distance and endurance

  • Those training for our Puerto Rico trip, and any out-of-town hikes and travel experiences

  • Individuals who enjoy a challenge with a rewarding outcome
